SUMMARY:IE Webinar: What we at Iziko Museums learned from our Humanity exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Humanity exhibition at Iziko Museums of South Africa reimagines the story of human evolution as centered on the diversity of humans today and how we came to be this way. The webinar will reflect on iterative design\, truth-telling\, and challenging biases; explore what inclusive engagement looked like to us; and touch on effective methodologies used for translations and measuring sustainability. Our experience highlighted the power of telling universal stories while focusing on Afrocentric perspectives\, and how this approach can create meaningful\, inclusive exhibitions. If you wish to take part in the webinar\, please register here at least one hour before the webinar begins. ***Please register using the same email address associated with your IE membership.*** \nAmy Sephton is the Chief Curator of Exhibition Design and Production at Iziko Museums of South Africa\, leading the conception\, design\, and delivery of transdisciplinary exhibitions. She brings a distinctive blend of creative leadership\, production rigour\, and systems thinking\, combining curatorial insight with creative production expertise to shape engaging\, educational\, and immersive experiences for diverse audiences. Amy is committed to reimagining museums as spaces for healing\, curiosity\, and futures rooted in dignity\, freedom and belonging. \nDr Wendy Black is the Chief Curator of Art and Social History at Iziko Museums of South Africa. She previously served as Curator of Archaeology. She specialises in the population history and bio-archaeology of the indigenous hunter-gatherer people of southern Africa – the Khoesan. Her research interests include population dynamics and genetics\, and in recent years\, she has also become involved in matters of indigenous rights and transformation\, particularly in relation to human remains collections and the representation of indigenous groups within South African institutions. Dr Black contributes to exhibition development and is actively involved in the supervision of postgraduate students.
