SUMMARY:IE Webinar: Evaluation – What are we doing in Europe?
DESCRIPTION:29 April at 15:00 CEST. \nWe would like to invite you to a discussion on evaluating heritage interpretation provisions\, taking place on the 29th of April at 15:00 CEST. \nEvaluation is an essential part of creating meaningful and effective heritage interpretation experiences. Whether you are assessing individual interpretation services\, temporary programmes\, or entire exhibitions\, understanding what works and what could be improved helps us better fulfill our purpose. \nWe would be very interested to hear about your approaches\, methods\, and findings. Are you evaluating visitor engagement\, learning outcomes\, emotional impact\, or overall visitor satisfaction? Do you rely on visitor surveys\, interviews\, observation\, feedback forms\, or more informal methods? How often do you carry out evaluations\, and how do the results influence your future planning? \nLet’s make use of the expertise within our network and exchange knowledge across countries and professional fields. Learning from one another’s successes\, challenges\, and practical experiences is what makes our community rich and rewarding. \nJoin us next week for an open and inspiring conversation\, and let’s explore together how evaluation can strengthen heritage interpretation across Europe and beyond. If you wish to take part in the webinar\, please register here at least one hour before the webinar begins. ***Please register using the same email address associated with your IE membership.***

SUMMARY:IE Webinar: Case studies from museum and cultural heritage projects in the Czech Republic
DESCRIPTION:12 May at 15:00 CEST. \nThis webinar presents an in-depth reflection based on case studies from museum and heritage projects. It focuses on dramaturgical thinking\, spatial storytelling\, and the translation of complex source material into forms that are readable and meaningful for visitors. The session will concentrate on the design process: how meaning is structured\, where key decisions are made\, and how content\, space\, and visitor movement are composed into a coherent narrative experience. \nDrawing on three concrete projects – the exhibition for the Museum of Františkovy Lázně\, the interpretive concept for Arnold’s Villa in Brno\, and a narrative space developed through the spatial translation of a sociological survey – the session illustrates different starting points and working methods. The case studies demonstrate specific tools used to transform historical archives\, architectural heritage\, and abstract research data into spatial dramaturgy and scenographic language. \nBarbora Klapalová is an architect\, scenographer\, and exhibition designer based in the Czech Republic. She is the founder and art director of Play to Lift\, a studio focused on storytelling through space and narrative exhibition design. Her work combines architectural thinking\, dramaturgy\, and visitor-centred interpretation\, with a strong emphasis on process\, structure\, and the emotional readability of space. Her projects include exhibitions and interpretive concepts for the National Museum and the Museum of the City of Prague\, among others. Barbora also teaches exhibition design and museum studies at Charles University in Prague. If you wish to take part in the webinar\, please register here at least one hour before the webinar begins. ***Please register using the same email address associated with your IE membership.***

SUMMARY:GAHI Webinar: A woman’s place is… Interpreting women’s built heritage and women’s narratives
DESCRIPTION:Global Alliance for Heritage Interpretation is inviting all interpreters around the world to a series of webinars. \nFriday 29 May May 06:00 CEST\nA woman’s place is… Interpreting women’s built heritage and women’s narratives\n \nThough women’s historical narratives have become much more expected in museum exhibitions over the last four or five decades\, when it comes to interpreting built heritage have we progressed as far? Do we still fall into the trap of imagining historical women only in domestic settings? How do we approach the idea of women’s physical places and spaces historically and in the present? \nTo tackle these and other questions about interpreting women’s built heritage\, please join Interpretation Australia’s Dr Meighen Katz in conversation with Justine Dalla Riva\, Executive Director of Melbourne’s Her Place Women’s Museum and Shelly Kube\, Site Manager at the Cascades Female Factory in Hobart\, part of the Port Arthur Historic Sites and one of the UNESCO Australian Convict Sites.  \n  \nPresenters \nDr Meighen Katz is a public historian\, curator and heritage consultant. After six years working for one of Melbourne’s major architecture and heritage practices\, she has recently established her own consultancy\, Katzeye Interpretation\, History & Heritage. \nPrior to her commercial work\, Dr Katz worked at Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga\, where she developed the pilot project for the Rainbow List\, a programme highlighting sites of significance to the LGBTQ+ community. She also taught university courses in urban history\, public history and museum studies. Her research interests have included the interpretation of the Great Depression of the 1930s and museum depictions of women convicted of violent crimes\, particularly infanticide. \nDr Katz has developed interpretation strategies for municipalities\, institutions and infrastructure projects\, as well as undertaking small site and single-building projects. In her interpretive practice\, she is particularly committed to developing innovative ways for communities to address difficult historical narratives and sites.  \nJustine Dalla Riva is the Executive Director of Her Place Women’s Museum Australia\, the country’s dedicated museum of women’s history\, located at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne — itself one of Victoria’s most significant heritage sites. Her Place officially opened in March 2026\, celebrating the lives and legacies of Australian women and championing their visibility in the public landscape. \nPrior to Her Place\, Justine spent six years as inaugural CEO of the Victorian Pride Centre — Australia’s first purpose-built LGBTIQA+ cultural and community hub — where she led the organisation from concept through to a thriving cultural institution welcoming more than 65\,000 visitors in its first two years. \nWith a background in communications\, strategy and not-for-profit leadership\, Justine brings a practitioner’s perspective on how institutions can bring overlooked narratives to new audiences and make women’s stories not just visible\, but central. \nShelly Kube is the Manager of the Cascades Female Factory in South Hobart\, Tasmania. This World Heritage-listed site preserves the extraordinary history of thousands of convict women and children who lived\, worked\, and faced punishment within its walls. Their experiences of hardship\, strength\, courage\, and resilience form an essential part of Australia’s national story. \nDuring her 30-year career with the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA)\, Shelly has held numerous leadership roles in heritage interpretation and management. At the Cascades Female Factory\, she authored the immersive visitor tours. These tours invite guests to view history through a human lens\, walking in the footsteps of the women who built the nation from its margins. \nShelly’s passion ensures the site continues to educate and inspire. Driven by the firm belief that history matters\, she works to share women’s voices from the past to help shape a more compassionate and informed future. \nPre-register to receive the link for attendance at: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/00-5GegtTfO7X9YFLDd1Kw

SUMMARY:NEMO European Museum Conference 2026: Human After All – Museums in the wake of AI
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the NEMO European Museum Conference 2026: Human after all – Museums in the wake of AI from 11–13 October in Vilnius\, Lithuania\, to rethink the human role in museums in an age shaped by AI and increasing digital vulnerability. \nAt the NEMO European Museum Conference 2026 the focus shifts from technology to people: how can museums build trust\, strengthen democratic resilience\, and take responsibility in a rapidly changing environment? As AI transforms how museums operate and engage with audiences – and as increasing cyber threats place new pressure on institutions – the challenge is not only to adapt\, but to act with purpose. \nBringing together museum professionals and tech champions from across Europe and beyond\, the conference explores how museums can actively shape this transformation. From mediating contested truths and fostering critical engagement to navigating organisational change and strengthening institutional resilience\, the programme connects strategic\, ethical\, and practical perspectives. \nThrough discussions\, hands-on sessions and collaborative exchange\, participants will consider how to rethink roles\, build capacity\, and turn uncertainty into agency. All to ensure that technological transformation remains grounded in human values\, public trust and democratic responsibility. \nBook your ticket now to secure your spot.

SUMMARY:8th international conference on cultural sustainable tourism
DESCRIPTION:The Eighth Edition of the Cultural Sustainable Tourism (CST) conference is set to be hosted on September 8th-10th\, 2026. Building upon the great success of its seven preceding editions\, CST 2026 marks itself as a reference on the intersection of culture\, tourism\, and sustainability. Previous conferences have diligently explored the preservation of cultural heritage\, the environmental impacts of tourism\, the economic benefits for local communities\, and the burgeoning role of digital integration in enhancing the tourist experience. These discussions have cemented the understanding that cultural tourism\, when managed responsibly\, is an indispensable tool for heritage conservation\, community empowerment\, and economic development. \nHowever\, the contemporary landscape of travel and cultural exchange is rapidly evolving\, presenting unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Global shifts\, including the accelerating impacts of climate change on vulnerable cultural sites\, the rise of over-tourism in popular destinations\, and the increasing demand for authentic and transformative travel experiences\, necessitate a paradigm shift. Traditional approaches to sustainability\, while important\, are now recognized as foundational\, compelling us to move towards a more active\, restorative\, and regenerative model of cultural tourism\, eco-tourism\, religious tourism and Transnational cultural tourism. This demands that our engagements not only minimize harm but actively contribute to the revitalization of cultural ecosystems\, both tangible tourism and intangible tourism\, and the well-being of host communities. \nTherefore\, CST 2026\, therefore\, will focus on “Regenerative models of future tourism.” This overarching theme in the tourism sector aims to actively enhance cultural integrity\, ecological health\, and social equity\, leaving destinations more vibrant and resilient than before. We aim to explore how cultural tourism can become a genuine force for positive change\, moving beyond mere preservation to active regeneration. \nThis conference will serve as an important interdisciplinary platform\, which is useful for academics\, cultural heritage experts\, tourism professionals\, policymakers\, local communities\, and technologists. CST’s goal is to collectively define and implement the next generation of cultural sustainable tourism\, concluding innovative solutions and collaborative strategies. Through keynote sessions\, insightful panel discussions\, and high-quality research presentations\, CST 2026 will facilitate a rich dialogue among stakeholders\, promoting initiatives that enhance cultural authenticity\, build community resilience\, and contribute meaningfully to global sustainability goals.

SUMMARY:ICOM-CC Triennial Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Norwegian National Organizing Committee for ICOM-CC 2026 welcomes you to the 21st ICOM-CC Triennial Conference in Oslo 14-18 September 2026. The conference will be accompanied by a broad program of events\, before and after the conference\, at venues throughout Norway. \nConservators\, scientists\, curators\, and other museum professionals are invited to experience “the Norwegian Miracle” – a phrase coined by Swiss curator and art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist. “The Norwegian Miracle” describes the recent revisioning of the cultural landscape of Oslo. For more than a decade\, a significant investment has been made into institutions dedicated to art\, cultural heritage\, and conservation in Oslo. The capital of Norway has become a truly cultural destination. Several major initiatives in Norway’s museum sector have resulted in The Munch Museum which opened in 2021\, the National Museum in 2022\, and the new Museum of the Viking Age\, scheduled for completion in 2026. These exceptional new museum buildings are driving the production of new knowledge and helping to strengthen the conservation field. \nOslo is a compact venue where events\, social programs\, and accommodation can be planned within walking distance of each other\, allowing more time for conference activities\, and for conversations and meetings. \nThe theme for the 2026 triennial conference is: \nCultural Connections in Conservation. \nCultural connections touch upon the very reasons we conserve cultural heritage. Both societal and professional connections – as well as our links to the past and future – are vital to unlocking and supporting the cultural identities embodied in our material culture. As global changes and societal shifts continue\, it becomes increasingly important to understand\, respect\, and advocate for diverse voices and communities\, including Indigenous cultures. Adapting to new challenges\, forging new paths\, and fostering inclusive collaborations can align with our commitments to conserving our material heritage\, whether from the past or contemporary in origin. We must also acknowledge that one of the unintended consequences of conservation could be increased cultural distance. By integrating rigorous methods\, insightful perspectives\, and relevant technology in ethical and dynamic new ways\, we can ensure that conservation knowledge is accessible and impactful – both professionally and societally. \nJoining together in Oslo in September 2026\, we will have the opportunity to ask: \n\nHow can conservation establish new (and renew existing) professional connections to address global challenges?\nHow can conservation navigate temporal connections between the past\, present\, and future understandings\, and uses of material culture?\nHow can conservation help advocate for diversity and cross-cultural communication?\nHow can conservation help to bridge inter-generational cultural divides?

SUMMARY:Youth Heritage Days 2026
DESCRIPTION:Youth.Heritage.Europe. and Le Vie dei Tesori unite to bring Europe’s premier youth heritage event to the Mediterranean! \nYouth.Heritage.Europe. (Y.H.E.) and Le Vie dei Tesori are pleased to announce the 2026 edition of the Youth Heritage Days\, to be held in Palermo\, Sicily\, between 22-24 October 2026. Taking place in the framework of the European Heritage Hub\, the event will support the EU-funded platform’s mission to drive the green\, digital\, and social transformation of the European society through youth’s perspective.\n\nAs Y.H.E.’s annual gathering\, the 2026 edition will be held in a hybrid format for the first time\,  bringing together young heritage professionals\, students\, researchers\, and representatives of cultural institutions and civil society from across Europe.\n\nPalermo is one of the Mediterranean’s most layered cultural capitals — a city shaped by centuries of overlapping civilisations\, faiths\, and traditions. Its rich built heritage\, dynamic civil society\, and its renowned Le Vie dei Tesori Festival make it an ideal setting to explore youth engagement and  cultural heritage at the local\, regional\, and transnational levels. As a crossroads of cultures\, Palermo embodies the very questions the Youth Heritage Days 2026 seeks to address. \nThis year’s event explores three interconnected themes at the intersection of youth\, heritage\, and society: \n\nLocal Communities & Heritage: How can young people become active agents of local heritage and community development?\nCultural Tourism: How are young people shaping\, challenging\, and contributing to sustainable cultural tourism?\nThe Mediterranean: What are the specificities of youth heritage engagement in the Mediterranean\, and how do they connect to broader European contexts?\n\nThe programme unfolds across three days and combines round table discussions\, the launch of Youth Mapping Initiative\, an open public debate\, and cultural visits integrated into Palermo’s local heritage scene — including events linked to the Le Vie dei Tesori festival. \nAt this stage\, we are inviting young professionals\, students\, researchers\, and youth-led organisations to save the date and indicate their interest in attending Youth Heritage Days 2026 in person. \nOfficial registration will open soon. By completing the form below\, you can express your interest and be among the first to receive the early registration link and further updates about the programme: Event Expression of Interest: Youth Heritage Europe

SUMMARY:18th World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC)
DESCRIPTION:The OWHC’s New Urban Project for Historic Centers\nThe World Congresses of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC)\, held every two years\, are major events for exchanges\, work\, and decisions that bring together all members. The 18th Congress in Marrakech will feature two main events: The Symposium\, during which the OWHC’s New Urban Project for Historic Centers will be presented. This program is the result of several years of intense work by member cities. It is an original and specific contribution by the OWHC. \nThe 29th General Assembly of OWHC members\, during which member cities will decide on the Action Plan and budget for the coming years. Since 2022\, the OWHC has been undergoing a major evolution aimed at strengthening its political and operational dimensions. With its New Urban Project\, the OWHC wishes to become a platform for promoting a vision of the 21st-century city\, where the historic center is the cultural\, social\, and economic heart capable of responding to contemporary challenges\, with a focus on habitability. The Congress in Marrakech will be the starting point for a new phase of cooperation between member cities and partnerships with international actors committed to the preservation and development of World Heritage cities.
