Maurilio sees a big challenge for heritage interpretation in Italy, a nation which has the highest number of UNESCO WHS and the richest biodiversity in Europe. A country where heritage interpretation should be ‘business as usual’, but it isn’t. He has vowed to try and overcome the existing barriers between interpretation and universities; between interpretation and museums, archaeology, history, traditions, UNESCO sites; between interpretation and parks and other landmarks, with their nature and their local, ancient, cultures. He hopes to help to create many ‘heritage stewards’ and also to promote new job opportunities.
