As we develop value-based heritage interpretation and learning landscapes, we now discuss the importance of interpretive strategies.
An interpretive strategy aims to connect different heritage sites within a city or region in terms of heritage interpretation. It may also refer to one larger protected area (biosphere reserve, historic city centre, …) that includes several sites.
Together with UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, we want to find out what interpretive strategies should look like in the 21st century. Can they create synergies between those involved, and can they complement formal learning? Will they help make heritage more meaningful to people and use interpretation to make people more mindful of our shared future?

You can help us develop recommendations that will be pilot-tested as part of the Learning Landscapes initiative and could influence future interpretive planning in Europe.
