Heritage interpretation across cultures

Interpretation is a communication medium that should promote intercultural understanding, respect, and recognition of cultural differences. Learning facts about the differences is not enough and to develop intercultural interpretive /communication skills, we must start from ourselves: we must become aware of core cultural concepts and how we think about culture, how we see the importance of perspective-switching, how we become aware of our own values and other’s values. Understanding between cultures through heritage interpretation can help open communication about important global problems that are common to all.

Samia Zitouni has worked in tourism since 2004, building bridges and opening communication between people and cultures. Since 2015, she has passionately pursued an interest in cross-cultural communication and has occasionally organized workshops dedicated to this topic. She is also an IE Certified Interpretive Guide and Trainer.
