We spend a lot of time outdoors during Interpret Europe’s training, no wonder March is a very popular month for our courses! One such training recently took place in the Croatian town of Korčula, on its namesake island. The tourist season hasn’t kicked off yet, so a group of fascinating guides and curators seized the opportunity to join the Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) training organised by Korčula Tourist Board (www.facebook.com/KorculaTouristBoard). They spent a week trying out our toolkit and creating paths to a deeper meaning of the centuries-old town made of stone. Judging by the final papers that are already pouring in, the south-Dalmatian island is well-equipped with interpretive guides ready to bring each detail of their incredible island to life. ... Interpreters of the World: heads up! This compilation of texts about interpretation from around the globe features contributions from two of our members: the story from Europe was written by our Training Coordinator, Valya Stergoti, and the Latin America contribution was from long-term IE member, Jon Kohl. This comprehensive study about the role of interpretation in a changing world has been published by UNESCO WHIPIC (International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation for World Heritage Sites) on its first anniversary and it is worth a read.
